ONE-DAY FIXTURE CARTA GF. RATES PROTEST (Special to Times) TE AROHA, Monday. A special meeting or the Thames Valley Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Association unanimously decided to hold a one-day show on Saturday, November 23. Mr V. G. Hamilton, who presided, explained that the object of the meeting was to receive replies from about 30 exhibitors who had been communicated with In order lo ascertain their attitude. Or the 21 replies received. 20 exhibitors had stated tlieir intention to show- stock provided it was a one-day show. This was very encouraging, said the president, and he knew that the business community and the general public would be behind thq association in the event or the show being held. Mr Clarke said that one man had offered to donate £5 should the association suffer a financial loss. A local carrier, Mr Smlthurst, was present by invitation to explain the new ear [age rates recently fixed by the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority. Mr Smlthurst said the cost of conveying pedigree stock would be increased enormously. He would be compelled to charge 10s an hour while his truck was standing idle. The charge lor putting the frame on a truck was 15s. The cost of taking an animaj from Te Aroha to Claudelands and back would now be about £7. The carriers themselves were most dissatisfied with tmregulations and the charges, which were considered too high. The meeting decided to send a protest to the No. l Licensing Authority regarding the cost of cartage insofar as it affected A. and P. shows. The following members or the committee were appointed to make the necessary alterations in the previous two-day schedule: Cattle section, Messrs Hazelton 11 O. Cooper and Colson; horse section’ .Messrs Gillon, Scott and Hamilton; sheep section. Messrs’ H. Wagstaff and A. l Thompson; horticultural section, Mr Bliss. ROAD CYCLING The Te Aroha Cycling Club held Its weekly road race on Saturday with a race to Tatuanui factory and back, a distance of 20 miles. Fast times were recorded by all competitors. Results were\V. Skifllngton (7jm), 45*m. l; v. Reader (sm), 4 3m, 2; b. Skimngton (9*111), 4.4 m, 3; J. Skimngton (14m), 4"nj, 4. Skimngton won by hair a wheel from Reader, with B. Skimngton iOnyds behind. Fastest time was recorded by J.
