INDUCTION SERVICE
HAMILTON EAST PARISH
REV. W. A. CARMICHAEL The Rev. W. A. Carmichael, formerly of Fortrose, Southland, was inducted last night into the pastoral charge of Knox Parish, Hamilton East, in succession to the Rev. H. J. Lilburn. before a large gathering, representatives being present from all parts of the parish. The Moderator of the Waikato Presbytery, the Rev. D. Mclntyre, presided. The Rev. S. J. Atkins, Moderator during the vacancy, stated that remarkable unanimity had characterised all stages of the proceedings leading up to the call, and there was abundant evidence that the congregation had been Divinely led in its choice. The sermon was preached by the Rev. F. H. Kedghley, of Tirau. The charge to the newlyinducted minister was delivered by the Rev. C. L. French, and that to the congregation by the Rev. H. W. Hitchcock.
After the induction the gathering adjourned to the adjacent hall, where a social was held. Mr and Mrs Carmichael were welcomed by representatives of the office-bearers and church organisations, who pledged their heartiest co-operation in the work of the charge. The Rev. H. G. Gilbert greeted them on behalf of the Presbytery and the congregation of St. Andrews.
Mr Carmichael thanked the congregation for the cordial reception and said he hoped the high expectations raised would be fully realised. Appreciation was expressed of the services of the interim Moderator, the Rev. S. J. Atkins. A supper interval provided an opportunity for members of the congregation to become acquainted with Mr and Mrs Carmichael.
