WELLINGTON INVITATION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday An invitation to the Matson Navigation Company, San Francisco, to have its vessels call at Wellington, was recently extended by the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. The invitation was sent following the sinking of the liner Niagara out from Auckland, and pointed out that Wellington was at that time an open port.

A vice-president of the Matson company, Mr F. A. Bailey, in a letter dated August 8, received at this evening’s meeting of the council of the chamber, said: “ As you are, of course, aware, normal steamship traffic to the port of Auckland has been restored. We very much appreciate your invitation to have our vessels call at Wellington. We shall bear this in mind on future occasions.”
