CHURCH ACTIVITIES
PRESBYTERIANS AT MATANGI | The annual meeting of the Waikato ; East Presbyterian Church was held in the church hall at Matangi, when the Rev. C. L. French presided over ; a good attendance of members and adherents. The report of the year’s ; work showed that interest in the , church had been well sustained, j while in some directions important i advances had been made. ! The Presbyterian Women’s Misj sionary Union were able to report a | year of progress in all departments, j Their contribution to the mission | work of the church was £3O. In ad- ; dition clothing had been sent to the ! Maoris, material to China, and fruit • to the orphanages. j Financially the church had experienced an excellent year. The gross | revenue was £621, of which £144 had ; been paid off the mortgage on the ! hall, which now stood at £BB. The ! budget assessment had been more than met, the sum of £56 being paid ' where £52 was allocated. The in- ; crease in the ordinary revenue was ' £SO. i Members of the Board of Man- ! agers were re-elected with the addition of Mr M. Duncan. LANTERN LECTURE At the church hall, Matangi, an in- ! teresting lecture was delivered by • Miss V. Sutherland, of the New Zealand Presbyterian Church mission at Kharar, India. Miss Sutherland’s talk was illustrated by an excellent series of lantern slides, 1 which depicted not only the work of j the mission but also the life of the j common people of India, j At the conclusion of the address the Rev. C. L. French, who presided, conveyed to Miss Sutherland the thanks of the church. A social hour followed at which supper was served.
