REGULATIONS MODIFIED

CENSORSHIP IN AUSTRALIA PRESS, RADIO AND CINEMA | (United Tress Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrfg-ht) CANBERRA, Sept. 2 Regulations conferring on the Director-General of Information, Sir Keith Murdoch, authority over the press, broadcasting and the cinema, which created disapproval throughout Australia some time ago, are again gazetted in a modified form. Newspapers may now be required to publish only corrections of any inaccurate statement of fact of the same length as the offending statement. The press will retain the right to refuse to publish comment, as distinct from statements of fact. Regarding broadcasting the Direc-tor-General will be privileged to occupy only 30 minutes in every 12 hours’ radio time, and only 10 minutes during any cinema programme.
