WIN FOR WHAKATANE (Special to Times) TE AWAMUTU, Monday. At Te Awamutu on Saturday a visiting Whakatane team defeated the Te Awamutu senior Rugby team by i I points to 6. First points came to the local side when Tombs ran up the liye to pass to Terry who scored under the nosts. Teddy’s kick was charged down. Whakatane attacked and the backs handled well for Thompson to score. Te Awamutu gained the lead when Teddy broke through to hand to Terry who barged over for his second try. The kick at goal failed. After the interval there was some bright play with Te Awamutu on the attack until Thompson took play to the local line, where he scored under the bar, Oswald converting. Whakatane increased its lead when Courtenay dribbled through for a good try. Te Awamutu tried hard to make up the leeway but the defence was sound. Mr I. F. Vickers refereed. Rovers defeated Pirongia Tor the Insurance Cup by 5 to 0. W. Ryan scored and Sherley converted. Junior Representatives A junior representative match between W aipa and Cambridge resulted in a win Tor Walpa by 9 points to 3. Cambridge opened the scoring when Chard got over arter a forward rush. There was even play with good forward work until hairtime but there was no further score. After the Interval, Walpa attacked and the rorwards kept the ball at toe for Parish to get over. Maintaining the pressure, Waipa rorwards put the side in good position and the ball went to the backs Tor Smith to score well out. The final points came when W. Beet scored after a dash from hairway. Cambridge Tourth-grade team met Walpa at Te Awamutu and won by 14 to 8.
