MOSES BEATS REDMOND AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP (by -r-cregraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday S. Moses (Wellington) heat A. E. liedond (Gisborne) in the final game of 1500 up to decide the New Zealand amateur billiards championship. Both players had been successlul in three previous matches, Moses having defeated V. Choat, It. B. Walker and A. Twohill, and Redmond had defeated A. Albertson, J. Campbell and R. Carrlck, the 1939 title-holder. Moses held the championship on two previous occasions. Redmond is a young player, whose style should improve with the experience he has gained. beginning confidently, Moses always led his opponent in the first session, and at the end or that evening’s play the score was 750 (in hand) to Redmond’s 635. On resuming for the final session, Moses continued to make many useful breaks and, at the conclusion of the game lie had 344 points to spare. The scores and breaks were: S. Moses, 1500 (30. 31, 31, 36, 37, 37, 38, 38, 40, 41, 41. 42, 44, 48, 57, 57, 59, 75, 76); A. E. Redmond, 1 156 (31, 32, 34. 38, 40, 42, 44. 46, 65). At the conclusion the winner was presented with a diploma and gold medal valued at £5 5s and a billiards cue for the highest break. Redmond received a diploma and a set of billiards balls. A billiards cue for the highest break outside those of the winner and runner-up went to R. Carrick.
