MILITARY OBJECTIVES HIT BRITISH SHIPPING SUNK (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlg-ht) (Received Sept. 2, 3.15 p.m.) BERLIN, Sept. 1 ' A communique states: Our fighters and pursuit planes yesterday and last night made surprise attacks on Britain, bombing airfields in Kent and Essex, harbour facilities at the mouth of the Thames and Liverpool, and air armament factories in the Midlands. Numerous fires showed the great effect of these attacks. The enemy yesterday lost 100 planes and 74 balloons. Thirty-four of our planes are missing. Enemy planes last night flew over the Ruhr to Berlin and bombed several places. Small damage was caused and’ no military objectives were hit. Our anti-aircraft defences prevented the enemy dropping bombs over Berlin. Some bombs fell in open fields outside the city. The sinking of the Dunvegan Castle brings the total sunk by U-boats in the past three days to over 100,000 tons. ITALIANS OCCUPY POST BRITISH CONVOY BOMBED EFFECT OF BRITISH RAIDS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrig-fct) (Received Sept. 2, 3.15 p.m.) ROME, Sept. 1 A communique states: Italian colonial troops occupied Huna. The Air Force bombed an enemy convoy in the Eastern Mediterranean. One ship was hit and badly damaged. The enemy raided the Cagliari airport and damaged two planes on the ground, also a corner of the headquarters buildings. There were no casualties. They also carried out raids on Cyrenaica, resulting in seven dead and eight wounded. Enemy raids on East Africa caused three dead and five wounded among Italians and natives. The damage was slight.
