SUCCESSFUL ATTACKS

TARGETS HIT BY AIRMEN ITALIANS SUSTAIN LOSSES (United Press Assn.—blec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, August 30 A British war communique issued at Cairo on Friday says:— A most successful attack was made by the South African Air Force on MogaDiscio, in Italian Somaliland. The target was a large Italian motor transport concentration. The raid was carried out by waves of bombers. When the last wave of bombers reached the target it was met by dense clouds of black smoke rising o 3000 feet. Large fires broke out in the north and centre of the depot. It is estimated that several hundred vehicles were destroyed. There was some fighter plane opposition encountered but the raid was pushed home to a conclusion. All our aircraft .returned safely. A building was demolished and a large fire started as a result of a raid by Royal Force bombers on Tancho, in Italian East Africa. Direct hits were scored on naval workshops at Massawa, in Eritrea, where three large fires were started. A large formal ion of enemy bombers and fighters raided Malta yesterday. There was some damage to civil property. Six civilians were slightly injured.
