TERRITORIALS’ EXPENSES MINISTER GIVES ASSURANCE SOCIAL SECURITY CHARGE (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Thursday “I have given instructions to expedite the payment of the amounts due,” said the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, in replying in the House of Representatives to-day to an urgent question by Mr H. S. S. Kyle (Opposition—Riccarton). Mr Kyle asked why territorials had still not received payment of any expenses, although they had been in training i<nce July 1. “Some territorials have had out-of-pocket expenses amounting to almost £3 over the nine weeks, and now are to go to camp for a final month’s training,” Mr Kyle said. “The Minister stated on July 30 in reply to a question that the matter of payment was receiving consideration.” Mx Jones said that schedules of the amounts due to territorials for travelling expenses had been received by the district headquarters of the territorial units concerned, and these were at present being checked preparatory to payment being made. Tax on Military Pay “The social security charge of 5 per cent, on military pay received by territorials called up for special training and that received by the Home Defence and Expeditionary Forces is being paid by the Government,” said the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, in replying in the House of Representatives to-day to another urgent question asked by Mr Kyle. _______
