MARRIAGE BY PROXY

PROPOSAL FOR SOLDIERS CORRESPONDENCE WEDDING (By Telegraph.— Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday A proposal that the marriage laws be amended to permit soldiers serving overseas being married by proxy was discussed by the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council yesterday. The chairman, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, said he understood the only people who could be married by proxy were Royalty. So much of the important business of life was done by correspondence that it seemed reasonable that one should be able to get married by correspondence. It was decided that the subject required further consideration before any action could be taken.
