BOROUGH RATING

POSITION AT TE AWAMUTU EFFECT OF NEW VALUATIONS (Special to Times) Te AWAMUTU, Wednesday The Te Awamutu Borough Council discussed the question of rates for the current rating year at a special meeting on Monday night. It was pointed out that the new valuations exceeded the aggregate of the old valuations by approximately £40,000 and if the rates were struck as for last year, approximately £2OOO additional rates would be collectable. The discussion showed that there was a division of opinion as to whether the same rate as last year’s (l/3|d) should be struck or whether a reduction should be made. Those who supported the same rate considered that the additional revenue would enable further necessary improvements to be made. It was decided that the rates be lowered to l/2d in the £ which would return approximately the same revenue as last year on account of the higher valuations. The matter will come before the council for confirmation at the next ordinary meeting
