CHINESE FOR TRIAL SUPPLY OF WIRE FROM CHINA (By Telegrapn.—special to Times) WELLINGTON, Wednesday Three charges of' false pretences were preferred against a Chinese, Jim Pei Lo, merchant, aged 35, in the Magistrate’s Court today. He pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Senior-Detective P. Doyle prosecuted and Mr F. W. Ongley appeared for accused. The case was heard before Mr A. M. Goulding, S.M. Accused was charged that, with intent to defraud, he obtained £l9B from Charles Henry Parsonage by falsely representing that he was in a position to import and supply from China 10 tons of wire on the order of Parsonage. The second charge was similar, the sum involved being £135 and the quantity of wire six tons. The complainant was Gordon Todd May. A third charge related to a cheque for £l5O allegedly obtained from Moy Fong Gee. When application was made for bail Mr Doyle opposed it, and said accused was not bailable by right. After hearing argument on the question the magistrate fixed bail at £4OO, to be deposited by accused, and one surety of £2OO.
