NAZIS AND BAGPIPES

TAKING MASS INSTRUCTION “MOST GERMANIC RACE" PLANS FOR INVASION (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrig-ht) LONDON, August 22 German soldiers have been seen taking mass instruction in the use of bagpipes, which they doubtless captured when the 51st Highland Division was surrounded at Saint Valzry. It is suggested that the German High Command may be planning to land German pipers in uniforms captured from the Scots. It is recalled that recently a plea was made to German papers by Herr Will Vesper, German poet, to stop publishing jokes about Scotsmen, “the most Germanic of the races in the British Isles.” Scotsmen, on hearing of Germany’s pipe plans, were inclined to regard the jokes in the press as the lesser evil.
