FRUIT MARKETING
REGULATIONS CONSOLIDATED NEW GRADING STANDARDS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday The New Zealand Grown Fruit Regulations, 1940, which are contained in tonight’s Gazette, replace similar regulations dated 1938, at the same time amending them to dovetail into the Apple and Pear Marketing Regulations and Lemon Marketing Regulations, which are administered by the Marketing Department in respect of the marketing of apples, pears and lemons in New Zealand. The Marketing Department’s regulations set out broadly the basis on which fruit shall be marketed by or on behalf of that department and stipulate that all fruit delivered to the department for sale shall be inspected by authorised inspectors under the Department of Agriculture to determine whether the fruit is properly packed and graded. The new regulations also contain detailed grading standards for apples, pears and lemons to replace the general grading standards laid down by the Marketing Depai'tment for operation with the commencement of the present fruit marketing season. Opportunity is also taken to include grading standards for stone fruits, but such grading is not applicable before November 1, 1941. In addition the regulations include grading standards for sweet oranges and dessert and marmalade grapefruit.
