THE FRENCH ARMY
180 GENERALS RETIRED PLANS FOR REJUVENATION CHANCE FOR YOUNGER MEN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 22, 11 a.m.) VICHY, August 21 A decree retires 180 generals, including General Blanchard, General Prioux, General Nogues and General Conde, the last-named having been Inspector-General of Artillery. Almost every highly-placed officer who participated in the operations against Germany is removed by the decree, which says it is intended to facilitate the promotion of younger officers, to rejuvenate the Army.
As the result of an examination of splinters found on the south-eastern coast of England on Tuesday of last week it is believed that the splinters came from shells fired from a highvelocity gun in France.
