EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS SCHEME PROMULGATED (Special to Times) NGARUAWAHIA, Wednesday The arranging for emergency prej cautions as proposed by the Governj ment has been for some time dis- ! cussed in Ngaruawahia, and a special I meeting of the Borough Council was j held last night to receive a report | presented by Messrs C. McGowan ! and F. Jackson, who had been a | special committee set up to formulate a scheme. The report suggested the formation of an executive consisting of the Mayor, Mr R. Eyre, members of the Borough Council, the town clerk, with the addition of Messrs A. S. Sutherland, A. Thompson, K. M. Wright, and the postmaster. This body would exercise supervision over the sub-committees, and see that their activities were co-ordinated. Sub-committees, subject to cooperation, will have full charge of the activities committed to their care. The following committees were proposed:—Medical and nursing, fire, law and order, transport, supplies, accommodation and evacuation, communications and messengers, construction and demolition, patrols, guards and stretcher bearers. During a general discussion it was pointed out that as grocers nowadays do not carry heavy stocks of foodstuffs, a scarcity would soon follow a break down of the ordinary transport system. It was resolved to call the attention of the government to this point. The council decided to hold a general meeting of all committees next Wednesday night.
