BREACH AT CAMBRIDGE
PROPRIETOR FINED £lO (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Wednesday The first case of its kind in the Cambridge district of failing to supply the Oil Fuel Controller with information relating to oil fuel obtained and used in a motor-car. was heard in the Cambridge Court this morning when A. D. Brown pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant J. White stated that defendant was the owner of a car which came under the notice of
the Oil Fuel Controller when he was checking up on benzine sold by defendant at his garage. On April 9 the Controller noticed that the speedometer read 22,292 miles. On May 3 the reading was 23.941 miles, which showed that the car had travelled 1649 miles in a little under a month. Defendant had no special license for i the car, being entitled to nine galj lons. The car had used 82 gallons j during the period. | The defendant said he subsequently went to the police and the Postmas- } ter, and made a statement as to where j he secured the extra benzine. He obI tained extra coupons from custom - j ers who could not fill their tanks. I Cross-examined, defendant admit- ! ted that he had misinformed the Controller in the first place as to where lie secured the extra benzine. He I admitted that he had told the Oil j Controller that he had a special I license for the extra amount. The magistrate said he had to accept the speedometer reading as submitted by the prosecution.
