EXTRA FOR NIGHT SHIFT MAGISTRATE DISAGREES (By Telegraph.—Press Association) DUNEDIN, Thursday In the Magistrate’s Court Mr J. B. Bartholomew, S.M.. gave judgment for the defendant company in a test case in which Ross & Glendining, woollen mill owners, were proceeded against by employees for extra payment for 19 shifts at 3s a shift as adult workers, by virtue of a labour legislation suspension order. The magistrate gave leave to appeal in view r of the important principle involved. Plaintiffs’ contention that ordinary workers on day shift were equally entitled with night shift workers to extra pay was invalid, said the mag- k istrate. The difference between shift work and ordinary work was recog- ] nised by clause 4 of the suspension 1 order. Plaintiffs’ position had not I been in any way affected by the working of the night shift
