HOME GUARD
ORGANISATION WORK OPENING OF CAMPAIGN (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday A Dominion-wide campaign to organise the Home Guard was launched by the Minister of National service, the Hon. R. Semple, when he met representatives of Canterbury local bodies this morning. The Minister explained the scheme and stressed the important part that local bodies would play in making it a success. Delegates passed a unanimous motion expressing their determination to do everything to assist the scheme by instituting sections of the Home Guard in Canterbury, and the Minister was thanked for his inspiring address.” With Mr Semple were the organiser of the scheme, Mr R. Sinel, and Mr H. H. Sterling, who is assisting in the organisation or tne Women’s Auxiliary. The Minister said that New Zealand would be organised as never before. There were 300,000 men who could assist to defend the country, apart from the armed forces, and they could be organised in a way that would stagger_the Dominion.
