TE AWAMUTU ORPHANS
INFORMAL EVENING (Special to Times) TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday There was a fair attendance at the Orphans’ Club meeting last night when Bro. Vice-president A. Law presided. There was a departure from the usual formality of the club and use of the stage was dispensed with and members gathered round the piano and enjoyed a free and easy evening. A programme was presented by the orchestra under Bro. L. W. Spence, the choir, Bro. L. Wattam (songs), and Bro. H. A. Swarbrick, who gave a brief explanation of the sea-chanty and sang three of them, the audience joining in the choruses. Bro. Law took the “Waikato River” as the subject of an interesting talk. Supper was served and at the conclusion “Auld Lang Syne” was sung to mark the departure of Bro. A. H. Woods, who leaves for Auckland shortly. During the evening the president, Bro. B. Malone, referred to Bro. Woods’ departure and conveyed to him the best wishes of the club members. Bro. Woods suitably replied.
