OBITUARY
MR WILLIAM McMILLAN (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday A widely-known leader in the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows, Mr William McMillan, of Grey Lynn, died yesterday, aged 74. On several occasions he was a delegate from Auckland to the biennial conferences, and in the past two years prior to 1939, he was grand master of the unity in New Zealand. Mr McMillan was a president of the Auckland United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary and Medical Institute and of the United Friendly Societies’ Conference. He was also a past master in the Masonic fraternity.
MR WALTER P. CHRYSLER DEATH OF MOTOR MAGNATE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. CopyrigTit NEW YORK, August 18 The death has occurred of Mr Walter Percy Chrysler, the motor magnate, from a cerebral hemorrhage, aged 65 years. Starting as a railway machinist’s | apprentice, Mr Chrysler became j manager of the Pittsburgh works of ! the American Locomotive Company ;at the age of 36. He became works j manager for the Buick Motor Company in 1912 and vice-president in I charge of operations for General | Motor Corporation in 1919. He was J later executive vice-president of the i Willys - Overland Company and • chairman of the commission which ! reorganised the Maxwell Motor Corporation. As chairman of the board of : the Chrysler Corporation, he was j head of one of the largest motor firms j in the world.
