RECREATION RESERVES
BOARD APPROACHES COUNTY (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU, Monday At today’s meeting of the Waipa County Council a letter was received from the Hamilton Domain Board asking whether the council would agree to a large number of recreation areas in county subdivided areas adjacent to the Hamilton Borough being taken over by the board. Most of them were in a dirty state and were probably of no use to the county. Mr Livingstone explained that he understood that the Domain Board did not want to acquire land at the expense of the county, but sought possible exchanges with other owners. Mr Peacocke said the system of recreation reserves in sub-division cases was not desirable. The reserve was generally useless ground. They grew noxious weeds which were a pest. It was decided to leave the matter to the riding members, Messrs Peacocke and Church, to insnect and report. It was thought that possibly the county could make exchanges.
