The umpire didn’t know too much about cricket; but he was determined to stand no nonsense. The first ball of the match pitched well off the wicket, broke m, and hit the batsman’s pads. “ Out! ” roared the umpire “Out?” cried the astonished batsman. “ What for? " “ All the afternoon," Faid the plre.
