SCHOOLS HOCKEY

PLAY AT AUCKLAND GRAMMAR BEATS HAMILTON (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday With teams from several parts of the North Island taking part, the New Zealand secondary schools’ hockey tournament was opened at Hobson Park yesterday. Fast, open play was the order, but more attention could have been paid to the stickwork of some of the players. In its game with the Auckland Grammar A team the Hamilton side

was beaten by 7 goals to one. The Aucklanders were speedier and more confident in the front line and had the advantage over the visiting team. The scorers for Auckland Grammar were Davies (2), Woolley (2), Kennedy, Wyatt and Kelsey. Nicholson netted for Hamilton. Following were the results of yesterday’s matches:—Stratford Technical High 2, Mount Albert Grammar 0; Wellington College 10, Wairarapa College 1; Auckland Grammar A 7, Hamilton 1; Gisborne High 7, Wellington Technical 1; Palmerston North High 10, Seddon Memorial Technical College 1; Howick District High 6, Auckland Grammar B 1.
