ASSURANCE OF SAFETY
JOINT DEFENCE BOARD CANADIAN-AMERICAN BODY SEA, LAND AND AIR PROBLEMS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 19, 3.15 p.m.) OGDENSBURG, August 18 The conference between President Roosevelt and Mr Mackenzie King ended this afternoon. The following statement was issued:
“The Premier and President discussed mutual defence problems in relation to the safety of Canada and the United States. It has been agreed that a permanent Joint Defence Board will be established immediately by the two countries and will begin immediate studies relating to the sea, land and air problems, including personnel and material.
“It will consider in a broad sense the defence of the northern half of the Western Hemisphere. The permanent board will consist of four or five men from each country, mostly drawn from the services. It will meet shortly.”
