AVERAGE PRODUCTION
RELATION TO GUARANTEE Reference had been made on several occasions to the question of the effective average butterfat production a cow in relation to the guaranteed price, said Mr S. J. Sheaf, general manager of the Auckland Herd Improvement Association at the annual meeting recently. At the request of the Dairy Board, he said, herd improvement associations were to collect data which would enable the “effective” number of cows to be arrived at for the purpose of computing the effective average production a cow. It was necessary, therefore, for the association to obtain from members over the months of August to February, inclusive, particulars of the number of cows in milk, together with the number of dry cows, at the time of the testing officer’s visit. The association’s testing officers had been instructed to collect this information, commencing with the August test. The association, it was felt sure, could rely on the cooperation of its members in supplying this information to the testing officers.
