EMPIRE AIR SCHEME

GOOD PROGRESS MADE MISSION TO CANADA TRIBUTE TO COLONIAL AIRMEN (United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright) RUGBY, August 15 The Air Ministry announces: Among the passengers of the British Overseas Airway’s flying-boat, which arrived in Canada today from Britain en route to New York, was Captain R. Balfour, Under-Secretary of State for Air. Captain Balfour, who was accompanied by his Parliamentary private secretary, is visiting Canada to discuss various matters in connection with the Empire air training scheme. This scheme for the overseas training of pilots and air crews in large numbers for active service in the air forces of the Empire is well ahead of schedule. Excellent progress continues to be made. Captain Balfour said: “The air scheme will be a decisive factor in winning the war. Canadian, New Zealand, Australian, South African and Indian pilots are showing a display that cannot be equalled by their opponents.”
