OBITUARY

MRS ESTHER LOCK The death has occurred in her 93rd year of Mrs Esther Lock, of 63 Te Aroha Street, Hamilton. Mrs Lock was born in Bristol and came to New Zealand 65 years ago with her husband and family in the sailing ship Bevvington. On arrival at Auckland they were placed, along with the rest of the ship’s company, in quarantine for six months, on account of an outbreak of typhoid fever. Mr and Mrs Lock were farming at Tamaki for six months before proceeding to the Waikato and taking up land at Hillside. Mrs Lock came to Hamilton 48 years ago and lived the remainder of her life here. Her husband died in 1920. She is survived by six children, Messrs H. C. Lock (Morrinsville), J. Lock, A. Lock (Hamilton); Mrs J. Proctor (Hamilton) and Misses M. Lock and L. Lock (Hamilton). There are three grandchildren and 16 great-grand children. MR D. P. LAIRD The death occurred yesterday of Mr David Patrick Laird, aged 62, of Turanga-o-Moana, Matamata. A son of the late Mr Alex. Laird, of Westmere, Wanganui, he came to the Waikato in 1907 and was farming at Cambridge for some time. Mr Laird then joined the staff of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, acting as stock agent at Matamata, Hamilton and Cambridge. After farming at Tauwhare for some years he retired to Te Aroha and later to Turanga-o-Moana. Mr Laird is survived by his wife and two sons, Messrs D. H. Laird (Turanga-o-Moana) and L. G. Laird (Ngarua). mr hugh mcintyre (By Telegraph.—special to Times) FEILDING, Friday The death has occurred after a brief illness of a widely known figure in the professional life *of Feilding over a long period of years, Mr Hugh Mclntyre, M.A., aged 71, a member of the legal firm of McIntyre, Taylor and Seddon. Mr McIntyre was formerly a teacher, holding the appointments in Wanganui, Palmerston North, Apiti and Kimbolton and at many other places before taking up the study of law. During the slump of 1931 Mr McIntyre was appointed chairman of the Mortgagors’ Relief Commission. He was for many years the Feilding representative on the Wanganui Education Board and was one of the original members of the Board of Managers of the Feilding Agricultural High School. He was also a past president of the Feilding Chamber of Commerce.
