JJETTE DAVIS will star In the Warner production of “The Letter,” based on the W. Somerset Maugham story. • • * • TAMES STEWART and Rosalind Russell will have the principal roles in the S. N. Behrman play, “No Time for Comedy.” Hiss Russell will do the role created by Katherine Cornell on the stage, and Stewart will have the part played by Laurence Olivier on Broadway. ("''LARK GABLE will have the top male role opposite Katherine Hepburn in the screen version of Philip Barry’s successful Broadway play, “The Philadelphia Story.” This will be Miss Hepburn’s first picture in over two years, and will be produced by Hunt Stromberg for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. \I7ARNER’S is seeking a second story to co-star Bette Davis and Charles Boyer, following their appearance together in “All This and Heaven, Too.” In the trailer for this film the two stars appear in modern clothes and not the period costumes actually worn in the picture. J>AUL LUKAS was signed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer for the role of the general in the Norma Shearer - Robert Taylor starring vehicle, “Escape,” based on the novel by Ethel Vance. The studio w r as considering bringing Conrad Veidt over from Europe for this role, but dropped the idea after tasting Lukas.
