"They Came By Night"
Will Fyffe does some first-class
acting in the Gaumont - British Dominions’ film, “They Came By Night.” He plays the part of a jeweller who becomes involved with a gang of thieves; arid not only does he do it in the most delicious of Scottish accents, but he makes his round, gnome-like old face and figure run a gamut of the most varied emotional expressiveness. The whole film is crowded with clever English and Scottish character studies. The scene where the old man takes too much to drink clashes with the quiet realism of the rest of the play, for it consists of a broad and fantastic farce. But the incident is highly diverting in itself. The story of crime and pursuits has been developed with a wealth of ripe, under-stated, typically English humour.
