BACON PIGS

CORRECTION IN WEIGHTS BOARD MEMBER’S STATEMENT “Although you have been told from several sources—and we ourselves were told the same thing—to carry your porkers through to bacon weights up to 2001 b., I want to. make a correction tonight and inform you that bacon pigs should be taken only to 1801 b., said Mr A. J. Murdoch, a member of the New Zealand Dairy Board, at the New Zealand Dairy Company’s smoke concert last night. “We are not going to accept the responsibility for the mistake, for it was made by a departmental officer.” Mr Murdoch, after paying a tribute to the manner in which the farmers were striving for the extra production asked for by Britain, stressed the need for unity in the industry and the necessity of producing up to the limit, even though the farmers did not agree with recompense for the job done. He stressed that whereas farmers had been told that they would get the full price for baconers up to 2001 b., the position was that the full price would be paid only up to 1801 b.
