NAVAL ENGAGEMENT

DESTROYERS IN ACTION ENEMY FORCES DISPERSED TWO BELIEVED SUNK (Omcial Wireless) (Received August 15, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, August 14 An Admiralty communique states that in the early hours of the morning the destroyers Malcolm and Verity made contact with enemy light forces, consisting of six armed trawlers and three E-boats. Our destroyers at once engaged the enemy, which retired behind smoke screens as soon as they were illuminated by the destroyers’ searchlights and were able to escape. Three of the enemy vessels were seen to be hit, and it is thought that one armed trawler and one E-boat were sunk. No damage or casualties were suffered by either of our destroyers.
