WAIOURU CAMP

CRITICISM ANSWERED REPLY BY HON. R. SEMPLE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday In a statement today the JJon. R. Semple, Minister of Public who has visited the camp with the under-secretary of the Public Works Department, declared that there was no reason for the hysterical protests and exaggerated reports regarding the Waiouru territorial camp. He explains that the parade ground was now as dry as a bone. After work had been done by mechanised units it would be covered with grit and sealed. A complete sewerage system had been installed. Hospital Being Built The finest water in the North Island was laid on, and a hospital was being built immediately. All key buildings were of timber and tents would only be needed for sleeping. In the summer time the climate at Waiouru was ideal, but if the war continued, the question of wooden hutments for sleeping in the winter would have to be considered.
