BOBBY CALVES

TRADE IN WAIKATO FREEZING WORKS ACTIVITY Increasing numbers of bobby calves are being handled at freezing works and the trade in the Waikato is reported to be normal for this time, except that more heifer calves are being saved as a result of the national drive to increase production. The calves have been generally in excellent condition, the improvement in this regard as compared with last season being a reflection of more favourable weather conditions and the fact that producers have been asked to exercise more care in the handling of the calves.

Advance payments equalling 5s a calf are being made by the Hamilton Federation of Calf Pools for calves over 481 b or 501 b, the standard of weight varying in several pools. A full payment of 3s is being made for under-weight calves and Is for dead calves.
