MONEY FROM COLONIES PURCHASE OF AEROPLANES DONATIONS TO RED CROSS (Official Wireless) (Received August 13, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, August 12 A number of further donations to Britain’s war effort are reported. Further donations of £147,000 have been received from the “Speed the Planes Fund” through the South African Governor-General’s fund. The Madras Governor’s fund for the purchase of aircraft amounts to £33.704. The Legislative Council of Grenada has granted £15,000 towards Britain’s war effort. The Trinidad and Tobago branch of the British Red Cross has cabled a further £15,000 to the London headquarters, raising the colony’s contributions to the overseas fund to £29,000. | Liberal gifts have come from the foreign communities in Trinidad and Tobago.

A big fire broke out in the refinery of the Orion Petroleum Company at Budapest. The cause is not known. It was some time before the fire could be localised.
