GREAT BATTLE
OVER THE CHANNEL 100 PLANES ENGAGED RAIDERS DESTROYED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, August 12 The great air battle over the English Channel and the south coast ol England yesterday was resumed this morning. No official news lias yet come in. One report says that over 100 machines took part in a fight over thr sea and the south-east coast early today. _ The Royal Air Force, states another report, encountered strong enemy forces and live German machines •were seen to crash. Some raiders a short time afterward tried to shoot down barrage balloons, but they were driven off. One report states that a German bomber was sighted off the northeast coast to-day. Fighters chased it and brought it down. A later message says at least 11 German machines are reported to have been brought down over the Channel and south-east coast this morning. No official news has yet been received. Five out of 30 dive bombers over a town in south-east England were destroyed. A number of German airmen were seen to “bale out.”
