BIGGEST AIR BATTLES OF THE WAR RAIDERS BROUGHT DOWN THRILLING ENCOUNTERS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 13, 11 a.m.) LONDON, August 12 It is officially stated that large-scale enemy activity is occurring over a wide area of the Channel and Thames Estuary. Enemy planes crossed the Kent coast this morning and and bombs were dropped at several places near the coast. Reports indicate that there were few casualties. The Evening News, in a late extra, says the biggest air battles of the war are proceeding along the Channel and Thames Estuary. Hundreds of planes are engaged. Thirty-nine more Nazi raiders were brought down in various parts of England yesterday. The previous day’s ' total is now known to have reached 65.
