TRAIN AT HOME
TERRITORIAL TROOPS CLAUDELANDS SHOWGROUNDS USE BY 7th MEDIUM BATTERY It has been announced that the one month’s training which the 7th Medium Battery will undergo in Hamilton before moving to camp will be held at the Claudelands showgrounds. The battery will train at Claudelands during the month of September, the men receiving their training at day parades and returning to sleep at their homes. The Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Waikato Trotting Club have placed their facilities at Claudelands at the disposal of the Army Department free of charge. Training will thus be carried out irrespective of the weather as a result of the gesture of the bodies controlling the ground. The military authorities have expressed appreciation of this assistance. In order to keep the battery in one unit the A troop from Auckland will be in Hamilton with the local headquarters troop and B troop. The Auckland artillerymen will go under canvas at the showgrounds, as they will be unable to travel to their home.*.. Units such as the Ist Battalion of the 16th Waikato Regiment, whose personnel is scattered over a wide district, will not be able to undergo the “ home ” training. It is expected that this unit will commence training in a full-time camp on October 1, when the units to train at home during September will also undergo full-time camp training.
