EGYPTIAN COTTON
PURCHASE BY BRITAIN ACTION APPRECIATED FILLIP TO INDUSTRY (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlgbt) LONDON, August 11 The satisfaction with which the Anglo-Egyptian cotton purchase agreement, under which Britain will purchase the entire 1940 crop, has been received in Egypt is greatly welcomed in Britain. Declaring that the agreement constituted an immense fillip for Egyptian economy, Brahim Abdul Had: Bey, Minister of Commerce and Industry, said: “Indeed, the £30,000,000 to £40,000,000 entering Egypt will permit economic life to go forward. Without the sale of the cotton Egypt would have passed through a crisis the extent of which cannot be imagined. The circulation of the money will allow local industry to prosper.”
The president of the Chamber, Dr. Ahmed Maher Pasha, said the agreement had been concluded entirely in the interests of Egypt and added: “I emphasise once again that this gesture is greatly appreciated in Egypt and will contribute toward strengthening the bonds of friendship which unite the two nations.”
