WEEK OF RAIN

TE AROHA DOWNPOUR RIVER AT HIGH LEVEL TE AROHA, Tuesday (Special to Times) Low-lying country is under -water and the Waihou River has risen rapidly following heavy rain which has fallen each day since Wednesday evening, the total for the period being 8.63 inches. It is likely that before long the river may burst its banks in places. Though not of the gale force sometimes experienced in the district, a high wind raged last night and some willow trees were blown down. A slip came down on the railway line in the vicinity of Waikino, delaying a troop train last night for an hour. As far as can be ascertained no great damage has been caused by the storm. The rain ceased this morning and the day is sunny. The heaviest fall of rain was yesterday, 2.08 inches, and on each of the four preceding days well over an inch of rain was recorded.
