CALL ACCEPTED
MINISTER FROM SOUTHLAND TRIBUTE FROM PRESBYTERY (Special to Times) INVERCARGILL, Monday The Rev. W. A. Carmichael, at a meeting of the Southland Presbytery, intimated his acceptance of the call to the pastorate of Knox Church, Hamilton East. The Presbytery adopted the following minute:—“The Presbytery places on record its warm appreciation of the services given in his first pastorate at Fortrose. Mr Carmichael was ordained there on November 29, 1934, and began a ministry which has been much blessed. He has won the respect and love of his people by his earnest evangelical preaching, his diligent pastoral work and the manner in which he has attracted the young people of the parish. The roll of membership has made a steady increase from 75 in 1934 to 98 in 1939, and the response to the assembly’s schemes has been steady and progressive. A new manse has replaced the 50-year-old original one, and the churches at the three centres have been kept in good order. Term as Moderator “In the presbytery, as opportunity offered, he has taken his share of the business, has been a helpful moderator of the Tokanui Home Mission Station and for a term occupied the chair of the Moderator of the Presbytery with dignity and decision. Mrs Carmichael has been an admirable and sympathetic helpmate as lady of the manse. “The Presbytery regrets losing so useful a brother, but warmly commends him, Mrs Carmichael and their little family to the goodwill of the brethren of the Presbytery of Waikato in the confidence that he will go from strength to strength in the ministry of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The induction of Mr Carmichael into the charge of Knox Church will take place on Tuesday, September 3.
