WIN FOR HUNTLY 10-POINT LEAD FROM MANUKAU AUCKLAND, Sunday Although making valiant effort to pull the game out of the hre in the second spell, Manukau was beaten by 23 points to 13 by a strong Huntly district team at Waikaraka Park, Onehunga, yesterday. Twice in the early stages Huntly was penalised, but easy Kicks were missed by Chase and Watene. Then Huntly
opened up in fine style., Taho made an opening tor half a dozen ol the team -to handle and Deverell to cross at the corner. The kick failed.
Shortly afterwards Deverell kicked and followed through to beat Hemi, gather the ball and go on to score under the posts. G. Moyes converted and the half-time score was— Huntly 8, Manakau 0. On resumption Huntly increased its lead, Shaw making the most of a penalty kick. The team forged further ahead when Manukau’s passing was intercepted by McGaughran, who went in unopposed. Moyes converted. Manukau fought back for the ball to go across the line for Awhitu to race in and score. Hemi converted. The Manukau backs got going again and a fine movement culminated in Chase scoring wide out. Hemi’s kick missed. Manukau attacked. Hemi finally sending Watene in near the posts. Hemi converted.—Huntly 15. Manukau 13. Huntly attacked again and when the ball was kicked over the line Connelly was there to score. The kick
failed. Just before the end Mines kicked the ball free when Manukau was defending to dash through and score.
