ORCHESTRA OF 50

GOOD WORK AT HAWERA TRAINING AT SCHOOLS Probably the most complete combination of its kind in New Zealand, the orchestra of the Hawera Orchestral Society presented its first concert of the season this week, a splendid programme receiving the appreciation of a most responsive audience. A unique feature about the orchestra was that it contained a full instrumentation, including two rare instruments, the oboe and bassoon. The society is fortunate in having as its conductor Mr H. C. A. Fox. The good work being achieved by Mr Fox in the schools was revealed in the orchestra. For instance in the string section all the players of ’cello and violas, one bass, the leader, Mr Louis Fox, and 60 per cent of the violin players received their orchestral training as members of school choirs at Hawera.
