GAVE HIS LIFE

BRITISH PILOT’S SACRIFICE AVOIDED CROWDED STREETS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Aug. 9 The story is told of a British fighter pilot who gave his life yesterday rather than crash into the crowded streets of an English coastal town. With his machine riddled with bullets and on fire, the pilot made an attempt to swerve toward the sea, and was finally successful. The machine crashed into the sea about 50 yards out. Motor-boats were sent out immediately, but no trace of the pilot was found.
