RAIDS ON CONTINENT

DAMAGE TO AERODROMES HARASSING MINE-LAYING (Official Wireless) (Received August 10, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, August 9 The Air Ministry announced tonight: Bomber Command aircraft made daylight attacks yesterday on the aerodromes of Schipol and Valkenburg, near Maestricht. One of our aircraft has not returned. Aircraft of the Coastal Command, on patrol off Le Havre yesterday afternoon, shot down an enemy twin-engined fighter in flames. Among the military objectives in Germany bombed last night were the Hamburg docks, supply depots at Hamm, Soest and Cologne, and several enemy aerodromes. One of our aircraft is missing. Mine-laying by our aircraft in enemy harbours and estuaries, which is a regular feature of our night operations, continues to cause serious damage to enemy shipping and dislocate his coastal traffic.
