OBITUARY

MRS ROBERT BOYD (Special to Times.) HUNTLY. Friday The death has occurred at her residence, Kimihia Road, Huntly, of Mrs Isabella Bertram Boyd, wife of Mr Robert Boyd, at the age of 60 years. Born at East Whitburn, County of Linlithgow, Scotland, Mrs Boyd, who was formerly Miss Lindsay, was married to Mr Boyd at Law Carluke, Scotland, in 1907. She came to New Zealand with her husband in the ship Rotorua in 1912 and took up residence at Kimihia. She had remained in the Huntly district for the past 28 years. During that time she had been a keen member of the Huntly Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Ladies’ Guild and the choir for many years. She is survived by her husband, and one daughter, Miss Margaret Boyd.

MR ROBERT GREEN (Special to Times) OTOROHANGA, Saturday Mr Robert Green, a resident of Otorohanga for nearly 50 years, died in a private hospital in Hamilton yesterday, at the age of 80. Born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, Mr Green arrived in New Zealand some 63 years ago. Landing from a sailing ship at Wellington, he sought employment of any kind but times were difficult, and with a compainion he walked along the west coast of the North Island and secured his first work at Patea with the general storekeeping firm of John Gibson and Sons. From Patea, Mr Green later walked through northern Taranaki to the King Country and secured work with the late Mr J. W. Ellis, who was a founder of the Hamilton firm of Ellis and Burnand. Mr Ellis then conducted a large trading business at Kihikihi. A branch store was eventually opened at Otorohanga and the late Mr Green was appointed in charge. Some years afterwards Mr Ellis transferred his storekeeping activities to Mr Green and Mr Percy Colebrook. Eventually the firm had a chain of stores throughout the Northern King Country and lower Waikato, and a warehouse in Auckland the latter being under the management of Mr Colebrook. Some years ago the business was sold and Mr Green retired at Otorohanga. Apart from a trip to his homeland and America some years ago Mr Green lived continuously at Otorohanga. He did not marry and he has no relatives in New Zealand. The funeral will take place at the Otorohanga Cemetery, on Monday afternoon.
