Copyright) SYDNEY, August 8 Faced with the complete failure ■ of Sydney’s water supply by next June if substantial rain does not fall in the meantime, the Metropolitan j Water Board to-day imposed the first | instalment of drastic restrictions, which will take effect immediately, ' prohibiting the use of hoses and water for gardens, bathing sheds, bowling , greens, golf links and tennis courts. The flushing of streets will cease from September 1. Water for car washing will be permitted at service stations under specified conditions. The board intimated that if the drought continues into the summer further restrictions, which will necesarily impose real hardship, will . have to be instituted.
