ACTION TAKEN BY AMERICA “FROZEN” FRENCH FUNDS GERMANY NOT AFFECTED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrl&nt) (Received August 9, 3.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 8 Mr H. Morgenthau disclosed that the United States is considering taking world war debt payments from “frozen” French and other occupied countries’ funds in the United States. He announced that he is not taking action to free “frozen” credits until the war debt question has been settled. Mr Morgenthau did not refer specifically to world war debts, but the Treasury spokesman pointed out that these are only the outstanding loans. Mr Morgenthau said: “Until we know more what is going to happen and more about the debt question we are sitting on these funds.” Asked whether the “freezing” applied to Germany, Mr MorgenAau said: “No. An.v amount of money can be sent to Germany. It is silly hut we are at peaee with Germany and cannot do Anything about Its funds.” -
