SUBMARINE SUNK
BRITISH NAVY’S LOSS CREW TAKEN PRISONER SAID TO BE NOT HURT (Official Wireless) (Received August 9, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, August 8 The Admiralty communique announces that His Majesty’s submarine Oswald, which had been operating in Mediterranean waters, is overdue and must be considered lost. An Italian communique has stated that 52 officers and men, including the commanding officer, of this submarine are prisoners of war and are not hurt. The Oswald’s total complement was five officers and 50 ratings.
